Students will be contacted after the final glaze firing to pick up finished work at South Main Creative. After a half-hour break to allow vases to firm up, we’ll reconvene to apply colorful underglaze! Bring a snack and stretch your legs while shopping SMC! Following class, Cass will bisque fire and apply clear glaze to pieces. Cass will begin with a demonstration and then assist students as they build their own vase. Play with clay! Get your hands dirty with local artist Cass in this beginner ceramic vase class! You’ll learn basic clay slab-building techniques and underglaze application, then experiment with handle shapes and color combinations to create your own unique piece.

Spaces are limited online registration & payment are required to reserve your spot. A materials fee of $20 will be due to teacher at time of class. Wear old clothes and consider bringing an apron and gloves.Ĭlass fee is $100.

Small translucent items, interesting flowers or plants, lace or fabric scraps, small film negatives. Materials fee includes: papers, fabric, cyanotype and fixing solutions, brushes, miscellaneous printing items, and other supplies. This course is perfect for all levels… no photo experience necessary. We’ll use digital and film based negatives to produce one-of-a-kind alternative photos on both paper and fabric. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that harnesses the power of the sun to create cyan colored photographs- the original “blueprint.” This course is hands on, experimental, and a little bit messy (in the best way).

Margo earned her master’s degree of fine arts in photography from San Jose State University. Learn the art of the sun print with Margo Duvall. Over time, their functions evolved to include being used in cooking, hunting, storage, as well as ornamentally. Baskets were originally intended to be used as multi-purpose vessels to carry, store, and preserve loose items. Archaeologists have discovered remnants of well-preserved baskets from as early as 4000 BC. Nearly every ancient culture has traces of basketmaking woven through their history. For centuries, humans have been using this versatile craft to weave functionality into fashion. Did you know wicker is actually a weaving process, not a material? It is traditionally made from natural materials, including vines, branches, reeds, grasses, and other plants. The word ‘wicker’ comes from Scandinavian origin, wika, meaning “to bend” and vikker, meaning ‘willow’ in Swedish. This temporary exhibit opens on Tuesday, June 21 and runs through Sunday, September 25. Rather than focusing on the history of basketmaking or their functions over time, this exhibit aims to celebrate this ancient art by highlighting its diversity.
